Volunteer waiver
Last updated: 24 October 2026
Thank you for joining a cleanup! Picking up litter is simple but it has real risks. Please read this short agreement. By taking part in or registering for an A Waste Project cleanup, you agree to it.
In this waiver, "A Waste Project" means A Waste Project, its organisers, volunteer captains and fellow volunteers.
1.Taking part is voluntary
I am volunteering my own time, freely and without payment. I am not an employee of A Waste Project. I understand that A Waste Project is a volunteer group and does not provide insurance for volunteers.
2.Risks I understand and accept
Cleanups happen outdoors at lakes, parks, streets and other public places. Risks include, but are not limited to:
- cuts or punctures from sharp objects such as broken glass, metal, thorns or discarded needles
- slipping or falling near lakes, water edges, drains and on muddy or uneven ground
- mosquitoes, insects, stray animals, snakes and plants that sting or cause allergies
- heat, strong sun, dehydration and sudden rain
- traffic when working near roads
- strain from lifting or carrying bags of waste
- germs and infections from waste and dirty water
I take part knowing these risks, and I accept them.
3.Staying safe
- I will follow the safety instructions of the cleanup captains.
- I will wear gloves, closed shoes and full-length trousers, and bring water.
- I will not pick up hazardous items such as needles, syringes, chemicals, batteries or medical waste. I will point them out to a captain instead.
- I will stay away from deep water, steep banks and moving traffic.
- I will stop and rest if I feel unwell, and tell a captain.
4.Release of liability
To the extent permitted by law, I release A Waste Project from any claims for injury, illness, loss or damage arising from my taking part in a cleanup. This does not cover harm caused by anyone's deliberate wrongdoing or gross negligence, or anything the law does not allow to be waived.
5.Health and first aid
I confirm I am fit enough to take part. I will tell a captain about any medical condition or allergy that could matter during a cleanup. If I am hurt or unwell, I allow the captains to give basic first aid and to call for emergency medical help on my behalf. I understand any medical costs are my own responsibility.
6.Getting there and my belongings
I am responsible for my own travel to and from the cleanup, and for my own belongings. A Waste Project is not responsible for anything lost, stolen or damaged.
7.Respect for everyone
I will treat fellow volunteers, the public and local residents with respect. Harassment or discrimination of any kind is not acceptable. Captains may ask anyone who behaves unsafely or disrespectfully to leave the cleanup.
8.Photos and videos
Photos and videos are often taken at cleanups and shared on our website and social media to show our work and invite others to join. I agree that I may appear in them, without payment. If I would rather not appear, I can tell a captain on the day or email info@awasteproject.org, and we will do our best to leave me out or take the photo down.
9.Children under 18
Volunteers under 18 must either come with a parent or guardian, or have a parent's or guardian's permission and be supervised by a responsible adult throughout the cleanup, such as a teacher with a school group. The parent or guardian accepts this waiver on the child's behalf. The parent, guardian or supervising adult is responsible for the child's safety during the cleanup.
10.My personal details
If I give my name or phone number when I register or check in, A Waste Project will use them only to coordinate cleanups and count volunteers. They will not be sold or shared with anyone else. I can ask for them to be deleted by emailing info@awasteproject.org.
11.Governing law
This waiver is governed by the laws of India. If any part of it cannot be enforced, the rest still applies.
By participating in or registering for a cleanup, I confirm that I have read and understood this waiver and I agree to it. If you have a question, email info@awasteproject.org.
